We want to say a big thank you to Bert, our “unofficial resident” who recently referred to our staff as “angels” .
At Longmead Court Nursing Home we love to receive positive feedback from relatives, it always means so much to our staff, especially after the very challenging 18 months we’ve had during the COVID-19 pandemic.
88-year-old Bert (pictured above with the care staff and below on his wedding day) is the husband of our wonderful resident, Stella and they’ve been married an incredible 63 years! He recently referred to our staff as “angels” for the care we’ve given to his beloved wife… and also to him!
Bert said, “I call the staff ‘my angels’, they are all so kind and really look after me – even though I’m not an ‘official resident’ I still feel very much part of the Longmead Court family and it’s very homely here.’
It was very difficult during the pandemic restrictions when the home had to close and for a period of time Bert was only able to see Stella through scheduled ‘window visits’ Bert added, “I hadn’t spent a single day apart from Stella since the day we got married. Only seeing her through a window was truly heartbreaking but the staff were there to support us both,” said Bert. “They went above and beyond.”
Bert now visits the home every day again, spending time with his wife and even eating breakfast, lunch and dinner together, in fact Bert only returns home to sleep! Prior to the restrictions, Bert even moved into the home during Christmas 2019 and it was very special to have him with us. We’ve invited Bert back for Christmas this year too (providing there are no additional COVID restrictions) and we’re all really looking forward to it.
Kelly Corrie, registered home manager said, “We could see how much Stella was suffering without Bert, so once restrictions eased, we wanted to make sure we did everything we could to claw back some normality for them, so we’ve made Bert our unofficial resident.”
“We want Longmead Court to be a home from home for the residents and their loved ones and person-centered care, which promotes independence and choice is at the heart of what we do.”
“We strive to create a warm, homely and peaceful environment for our residents so that relatives can feel confident that their loved ones are in safe and caring hands and we’re so glad that both Bert and Stella are so happy here.”
