Will you be able to cope with my loved one's dementia?

The anwer is almost certainly yes. We specialize in caring for people who have dementia and this has enabled our staff to build up tremendous practical knowledge of how to provide the very best dementia care. Whatever the type of behaviour, we will have experienced it and know how to deal with it in the best possible way. In fact, we are often asked to look after people from other care homes who have found it difficult to cope with aspects of their behaviour.

Our highly skilled, specialist dementia team members, led by mental health nurses, understand the challenges of living with dementia and will gently accompany your loved one on their journey whilst being encouraging, supporting and reassuring at all times.

The home has features which help to assist with the progressive nature of dementia. These include safe and secure gardens where your loved one can enjoy the fresh air and outdoor activity, and safe internal walkways where the overriding aim is to offer a warm, homely environment.

We recognise that excellent care for your loved one is as much about them enjoying life and looking forward to the days ahead as it is them being in an environment where fun, laughter and friendship are encouraged, promoting their physical and emotional well-being.

They will be supported to participate in as many of the many social activities as they choose or are able to.

Our well organised and scheduled activities programme has enhanced the lives of our residents including those with advanced dementia and will help create the right balance for them.

If you are unsure of whether Longmead Court is the right care home to accommodate your loved one's needs please feel free to call the Home Manger on 01376 313341 for a confidential chat.

How do I know they will be well looked after?

We feel the best people to tell you the sort of care your loved one will receive at Longmead Court are those who have experienced it. So, here's what just a few of our many grateful families have to say about their loved one's stay here.

Excellent management and staff who look after the residents

My mother has been a resident at Longmead Court for seven months now and in that time there has been a noticeable improvement in her behaviour. This is all down to the excellent management and staff who look after the residents.

Every staff member who I have encountered have been friendly, caring and very helpful when I have an enquiry. Longmead Court has been a great environment for my mother.

We have no worries about her safety as we did when she was still in her own home, even though she had live-in care

Originally, we were concerned about residential care for my mother for a number of reasons, but Longmead was recommended to us and has certainly proved to be the best place for her. She is well cared for and happy and we have no worries about her safety as we did when she was still in her own home, even though she had live-in care.

She is clean, warm, well-fed and takes part enthusiastically in the activities on offer. We could not be more pleased that she has settled so well.

The individual care that both of my parents have received has been first class.

I cannot praise highly enough the care and attention that my parents have received whilst they have been resident at Longmead. My mother has been a resident for 2 years, she suffers from Vascular Dementia and is in her eighties. As a family we feel that she is in the best place, she is safe and secure and well looked after. There are regular visits from GP's, opticians and in her case the local church.

My father, who passed away last year, was also a resident and during his final months he was made as comfortable as possible and it was very apparent the bond between him and the staff was very strong.

The individual care that both of my parents have received has been first class. The staff are very supportive, they genuinely care for the residents in their care. Visiting has never proved a problem and actively encouraged. There are local trips out and there is entertainment on a regular basis. As a family, we are very happy with the service that Longmead supply.

There have been positive changes to her behaviour and mood

My wife has been a resident for just over two and a half years. During this time, there have been positive changes to her behaviour and mood this is largely down to the consistent and kind care she has received.

I feel that she is safe and well cared for in a way that is appropriate to her needs, and I have no concerns leaving her in the care of Longmead Court Nursing Home.

What will their room be like?

Your loved one's room will be extremely well appointed and tastefully decorated to the highest standard. Most rooms have a wonderful view over the manicured grounds and the beautiful countryside beyond the home. This gives a feeling of being next to nature which we have found is very helpful to the well being of those living with dementia.

It's also really important that someone who is living with dementia has familiar surroundings so they feel calm and relaxed. So, we'd love you to bring their own ornaments, treasured mementos and small furniture items to make their room their own. We'll even re-decorate it in line with their home decor to truly make it feel like home, if you'd like.

All rooms are spacious and bright, from both natural and artificial light. This gives a light and airy feel which contributes to a feeling of calm and resassurance for your loved one.
